How To Tie Shoelaces that stay tied but untie easily

Shoelaces get tied and untied several times a day. That’s just life, isn’t it? It doesn’t have to be. Here’s a shoelace tying hack that will change your life and keep your kids safe on the soccer field.

There are a lot of ways to tie your shoes. Some are decorative, some are functional, and some work better than others. If you search how to tie shoelaces so they don’t come untied, you’ll likely get a tutorial on how to tie a double knot. Double knots are effective when it comes to keeping shoelaces tied. However, the knot we are referring to is not the double knot technique that is so frustrating for kids to untie. This technique unties like a regular knot, but stays tied like a double knot. And actually, there’s more than one way to do this. Here are the top two. The method you or your child chooses may depend on how you usually tie your shoes.

The Bunny Ears Method

People who like to make bunny ears will prefer this method. This popular rhyme can still be used:

“Bunny ears, bunny ears, playing by a tree. Criss-crossed the tree, trying to catch me. Bunny ears, Bunny ears, jumped into the hole, popped out the other side beautiful and bold.”

The Single Loop Method

Those who like to make a single loop and then create the second loop by pulling the lace through will prefer this method. This popular rhyme can be used:

“Over, under, pull it tight. Make a bow, pull it through to do it right.”

All Things Considered

Both methods keep shoes tied all day, even with vigorous activity. But more importantly, your kids will be able to untie their laces as usual. Though they will have to pull a little bit harder. Even better, both methods are easy to learn and teach.
