How to Cut Cauliflower without Making a Mess

We admit it. Sometimes, we let our head of cauliflower get a little old before we finally use it. Why? Because, we have to be in the mood to clean the mess from cutting it. This was us until Ina Garten showed us how to cut cauliflower without making a mess of our kitchen. Of course, she is not like the rest of us and when someone wrote in asking for help, she wondered, “Why does it get all over your kitchen?”

First, pull all the leaves off the cauliflower. But, before you start cutting it at the top or from the sides, stop. Instead, turn the cauliflower on its head and start by running your knife around the core. Cut out the core. Then, pull the head apart. To get individual florets, just slice through the stem and pull each piece apart the rest of the way. “You have the perfect florets and no mess. If you need smaller florets start cutting from the stem side and cut until you have the desired size. How easy is that?” And, we no longer leave a mess in the kitchen after cutting cauliflower. You can watch her do it here.

Now that you know how to cut cauliflower without making a mess, look out for our post on how you can make an easy side dish with all those beautiful florets using just salt and pepper for flavor.
