Chocolate pudding doesn’t have to be bad for you. And, it doesn’t need refined sugar to taste good. This decadent vegan chocolate banana pudding is a surefire antidote to any chocolate craving. It’s creamy, light and airy, similar to whipped cream, and tastes rich even without the egg yolks. Will the kids realize it contains all real food ingredients and is sweetened naturally using only dates and ripe bananas? We doubt it. Put leftovers into ice pop molds to make frozen pudding pops that can even become breakfast. Honestly, we don’t miss that cornstarch and refined sugar at all. This recipe is the easiest chocolate pudding you’ll ever make. Did we also mention that it’s a no-cook recipe? PrintDecadent Vegan Chocolate Pudding with Bananas
A vegan, paleo and refined sugar-free chocolate banana pudding that’s delicious and nutritious. Made with only whole food ingredients and sweetened with just dates and bananas.
- Prep Time: 15
- Total Time: 15 minutes
- Yield: 4-6 Servings 1x
- Category: Dessert
- Method: No-Cook
- Cuisine: American
- Diet: Vegan
Ingredients
- 1 cup plant-based milk or dairy milk
- 3 medjool dates, pitted
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 ripe avocado, pitted and peeled
- 3 rounded tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla paste, extract or powder
Instructions
- Put milk and dates into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Add all other ingredients. Then, blend until smooth.
- Scoop into bowls. Violà ! It’s really that easy.
Notes
- Fresh dates work best in this recipe because they blend into a creamy and smooth consistency. If your chocolate banana pudding has a gritty texture, your dates may have already crystallized and using soft fresh dates would help.
- If you’re making pudding pops, fill ice pop molds immediately after blending and be sure to tap air bubbles out of the mold by gently bouncing it on the counter during filling. It may splash as the air bubbles pop, but this is worth the extra effort so your pudding pops come out smooth.
- For a cold frosty pudding, cut bananas into 1″ pieces and freeze them. Make the pudding recipe above using the frozen bananas.
- The recipe also works without bananas, but you will get less pudding.

Make It Your Own
Add toppings such as whipped cream, chocolate shavings or fresh fruit. We like strawberries, raspberries and bananas. Another idea is to layer it with banana slices, whipped cream and vanilla wafers to make a chocolate version of banana pudding. You could even put it in a graham cracker crust and make a pudding pie topped with whipped cream and shaved chocolate. Eat this option immediately before the crust gets soggy or freeze it for a frozen treat. This decadent vegan chocolate pudding is versatile. Tell us how you’ve made this recipe your own!
